Too Close for Comfort

I heard about this incident last week, but I didn’t really pay attention to the details until a phone call last night.
I have known these people for years. We’re not close, but they’re the kind of people you can get on with easily. Pretty laid back and lots of fun to hang out with. Good folks.
The homeowners had reported that their car had just been broken into while they were eating at a restaurant. The couple noticed that their garage door opener and car registration were missing and immediately called police.
When they discovered their garage door opener and car registration were missing, they called 911 and headed home. My friend was angry and thought maybe he could catch them in the act.
The police arrived first.
When a police officer arrived, he saw that the garage door of the home was open and called for backup. When he went inside, he saw the two suspects and shots were fired
If my friend had arrived first, I am fairly certain he would be dead now.
